“I don't have to travel far to have fun at Krystal”
Is it the booming of the pirate ship's cannon early in the tourist morning or is it the post dawn mist rising and dissipating from the peaks of the Sierra? Is it the sight of brilliant hibiscus blossoms and cascading bougainvillea or is it the gently waving fronds of palms waiting to offer shade from the sun? What ever it is that awakens me to the reality that this is not the world of snow, I am welcomed to Puerto Vallarta's Krystal.
Whether I am eating my breakfast on my villa's patio or under the palapa roof of Las Velas restaurant, I will make some decision as to how to spend this day. Will it be poolside or ocean side? Or will I travel by boat to view tropical beaches or rocky islands; will I see hump backed whales, dolphins, turtles and albacore tuna?
But maybe today will be the day to drink a cappuccino over looking the expensive yachts in the Marina Vallarta; or to catch a local bus to visit other beaches. Ah! Today it will be a swim and stroll and shell collecting at Destiladeras. Tomorrow will it be a margarita in the surf town of Sayulita or a lunch of fish on the beach in Punta de Mita?
Then again I might catch the bus to the Zona Romantica - oh how I love that name, to walk by the surf to the Conchas Chinas where perfect sand and thundering waves will greet me. Yet maybe it will be a repeat visit to a destination I discovered for the first time in 2009 -The Vallarta Botanical Gardens. I celebrated my birthday there, hiking the trails and seeing countless species of orchids.
Then again I don't have to travel far to have fun. At Krystal I can swim in the Aqueduct pool, play bingo or tennis. On the Monday evening I can celebrate with my fellow guests at the welcome reception. I will meet the orphans we financially support and perhaps will win a bottle of Kailua or tequila. Those evening shows at the kiosk behind the New Tower were fabulous on my last visit.
Food plays an important role in making my trip to Krystal Vallarta special. What a wonderful supermarket we have down the street to make self catering so easy. The Krystal membership card discounts the price of the food at the restaurants on site and every expedition away from the resort provides us with such choice in eating establishments.
No matter where I have gone or what I have done during the day, it is so refreshing to come back to the villa late in the evening. I will have seen the Pacific's horizon rise to swallow the setting sun. I will have taken a walk on the beach after dark to feel the vibrations of the crashing waves and see the lights of the down town area to the south. The tourist ships return to the Terminal Marina and maybe fireworks or a ship's cannon will herald days end. The day's noise and activity give way to a peaceful night at Krystal - a prelude to the blue sky which will dawn tomorrow.
